Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso dominates practice session two of Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso finished the second practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix in the top spot on Thursday.
The Spanish completed 42 laps in the second session with the fastest time.
After a successful Thursday practice session 1 of the Monaco Grand Prix, the second practice session of the sixth round of the 2011 Formula 1 season took place at the Circuit de Monaco on May 26, 2011.
All the Formula 1 teams prepared for their second practice session and tested the supersoft tyres as well.
Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel was in the top place in the morning practice session, but he dropped down to fifth spot in the afternoon session.
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton was 0.105 seconds off the pace and finished his practice run marginally behind Alonso in the second place.
Hamilton was closely followed by Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg, who ended up at the third position. McLaren’s second driver Jenson Button finished his run in the fourth spot.
Felipe Massa took the sixth place for Ferrari, 0.658 seconds behind the leader. Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher managed a seventh position in the second practice run. Despite an unimpressive run in the afternoon practice, he is still confident
for the Monaco Grand Prix.
Red Bull racing team’s second driver Mark Webber had a gearbox issue with his car in the morning practice session and due to that, he could not register a time on the practice result sheets. However, he took part in the afternoon practice session and finished
his run in eighth place behind Schumacher.
Adrian Sutil made an impressive run and ended his practice run in the ninth place. The Force India team was quite happy with their driver’s good performance. However, they are hoping for some points from him on Sunday.
Renault drivers Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov were 2.0 and 2.2 seconds off the pace and ended their session in the 10th and 11th spots respectively.
Formula 1 Hispania Racing Team driver Narain Karthikeyan was again unable to impress and finished behind everyone in the 12th spot of the session.
The qualifiers of the Monaco Grand Prix will take place on Saturday which will be followed by the race on Sunday.
