Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso happy to see Robert Kubica recovering
Ferrari Formula 1 driver, Fernando Alonso, was happy to see the Lotus Renault GP driver Robert Kubica recovering from his horrifying accident during a rally race in the first week of February. Alonso reveals that the news of the unfortunate accident worried
him immensely, but recently he was glad to know that Kubica not only survived, but was also recovering rapidly.
As he recalled his fear when he first heard of the horrific crash, Alonso said, "It was not so clear he was going to survive.” The two-time world champion has always enjoyed a very friendly relationship with Kubica. The two super-fast racers met each other
over 15 years ago as rivals in go-karting. Alonso very vividly remembers how much he appreciated Kubica’s talent for racing, even when he was a very young boy. The Spaniard believes that over the years their friendship has grown more intense and he acknowledges
Kubica’s driving skills now, more than ever before.
While talking to the reporters, the 29-year-old stated that when he heard of the crash, fear crept through his body. He added that he wanted to see Kubica as soon as he could. Alonso explained, "I tried to drive to the hospital to find out exactly what his
injuries were. Now he is recovering well and we hope to see him back very soon in F1."
Kubica underwent his third surgery this Wednesday since the crash. Although he still stays at the Intensive Care Unit, it is reported that his condition is much stable now, and is rehabilitating his injuries.
Many people in the sport blame Kubica and his team, Lotus Renault GP for the poor accident. They believe that Renault should have forbidden the driver from taking part in rally racing, which is one of the most dangerous kinds of races.
The Ferrari driver defended Kubica and his team’s decision to let the young lad contest rallies. He explained, "We need to have something to get some adrenalin out of our system and rallying is good training from an F1 driver's point of view. I train on
a bicycle every day, and a couple of weeks ago a friend and myself were out riding and a truck cut in front us. A few meters nearer and we would have crashed into it. You cannot cut out risk."
Kubica is not expected to return to the track until the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season. Nick Heidfeld had been announced, this Thursday, to take his place behind the Renault wheel for the upcoming season.
