Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso hoping for another podium finish at Silverstone – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he is hoping for another podium finish in the 2011 Formula 1 British Grand Prix after he finished the European Grand Prix in second place behind Sebastian Vettel.
Alonso also said that the team will have to deliver some more upgrades to the 150º Italia car for better results in the Silverstone Grand Prix, which will commence from July 8, 2011.
The Spaniard kicked off to a disappointing 2011 Formula 1 season, as he was unable to show his strong performance on the grid in the initial races. The team driver admitted that due to the lack of his car’s pace, he could not make good progress in his race
until the Chinese Grand Prix. He made impressive run in the Turkish Grand Prix and finished his race on the podium. He did a lot of struggle for his race victory in the ongoing season after that.
The Maranello-based outfit driver also admitted that he did not have a good outing with the new Pirelli soft and hard compounds.
He said, “The last three races were very important for all of and we had never been as competitive as that this season. Even if maybe the track characteristics could have given us a hand, it was important to be fighting for the podium places and even for
the win, because it means we can tackle the coming races in good spirits.”
Alonso discussed the Silverstone race and said, “At Silverstone, we will find out where we are in terms of being competitive even at tracks which, on paper at least, do not suit us. I am keen to see how things will work out.”
Apart from that, the 29-year-old driver was not happy with the decision of Pirelli that the soft and hard compounds will be used at Silverstone.
The team is quite happy and satisfied with the performance of Alonso in the season and is expecting positive results from him in the upcoming race weekends.
After a strong finish in the European Grand Prix, Alonso is looking forward to a race victory at the Silverstone circuit. Let’s see how he manages his race there.
