Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso laments his team’s poor start to the 2011 Formula 1 season
The two-time Formula 1 World Champion, Fernando Alonso, has recently stated that his team did not have a perfect start to the 2011 Formula 1 season but the team has the capability to improve and maybe perform alongside the top running teams in the near future.
He admitted that this is not the start the team was hoping for, especially after the pre-season testing period which proved to be a major success for Ferrari. The Spaniard believes that with hard work, the team can change everything very quickly and Ferrari
might deliver some surprises ahead of this season.
The team has been unable to secure a single podium finish. The team has been unable to catch up with McLaren and the Red Bull Racing Team since the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Fernando Alonso is currently 42 points adrift of the drivers’ standings leader Sebastian Vettel and his team Ferrari on the other hand is over 50 points behind the constructors’ standings leaders Red Bull Racing Team.
Despite all of these problems, Alonso is optimistic about his chances because he believes his team will bounce back and score some good points and probably score his first podium of the season. He is hoping for some drastic improvements which might even
put him back in the title picture of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“It was definitely not the start to the season we were hoping for, for us and all our fans. Fifty points between the two of us is not much and we know our performance is not good enough at the moment, but we are aware that this can change very quickly,”
said the Spaniard.
Red Bull Racing Team and McLaren, on the other hand, are pretty much on an even keel now after the Chinese Grand Prix, in terms of pace and it seems that beating these two teams is not going to be easy for Ferrari or Mercedes GP anytime soon.
