Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso not blaming strategy for poor results in Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1
The two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso has said that he does not blame his team’s race strategy for the 2011 Chinese Grand Prix for the team’s disappointing performance at this past week’s race.
Fernando was on a two-pit strategy while most of the drivers were on a three-pit strategy and the race winner Lewis Hamilton’s strategy proved to be a success for McLaren as well. However, the Spaniard believes that even if he was on a three-pit strategy,
the results would not have changed and the team still would have struggled in terms of pace.
Alonso finished in 7th place behind his teammate Felipe Massa who finished in 6th place. The two drivers finished ahead of the Mercedes of Michael Schumacher. The two-time world champion blames the degradation of his tyres and his poor
start for this loss in terms of statistics and he also recently stated that at this rate, the team will not be able to give a promising performance at the Turkish Grand Prix either.
“I made a bad start, Felipe managed to get past me and a Force India nearly did the same, then it was a good battle on the opening lap. After the first pit stop, I lost too much time behind Michael, thus losing touch with the leading group,” said Fernando.
Other than that, he added that he had to battle against Michael once again but this time in an opposite situation as Fernando was ahead of the seven-time world champion’s Mercedes this time.
“Once again, it was a good battle, but I would have preferred to have been doing it for a podium finish rather than seventh place. Unfortunately, our race pace was too slow and I don't think that a different strategy would have changed anything,” Alonso
added.
However, the Spaniard has vowed to give his best during the European phase of the 2011 Formula 1 season which is going to begin in three weeks’ time starting from the Turkish Grand Prix.
He stated that he is going to be on a break during this time as it has been over a month since he went back home and in order to improve the new car’s performance, Alonso believes that the team should come back with a fresh mind as well.
The team is hoping to compete for the podiums at the upcoming races and since Felipe Massa is quite comfortable and confident about his run this year, it is believed that Ferrari will eventually improve their performance with due time and eventually start
competing alongside Red Bull Racing team and McLaren.
