Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso says Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel uncatchable in 2011 – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that Sebastian Vettel is in a league of his own as he is already closing the drivers’ title run for the 2011 Formula 1 season after winning 5 out of 6 races so far.
In the 2010 Formula 1 season, Vettel won just five races throughout the season to secure the title at the final race but this year, he is dominating the sport with a 58-point lead over the rest of the drivers.
Alonso claims that they could refer 2011 run by Sebastian Vettel to Jenson Button’s 2009 run as the BrawnGP seemed uncatchable back then.
“I think we saw in the last couple of years that if you win five or six grands prix you've nearly won the championship. So if you win five of the first six, you are in a very good position. There's only one occasion that (many early wins) happened, a couple
of years ago with Jenson and we know Jenson's result,” said Alonso.
Other than that, he stated that he tried to make a move on Vettel’s RB7 during the Monaco Grand Prix in order to win but because the race had to be stopped due to the accidents that took place at the chicane, his chances washed away after the restart.
“One hundred per cent I was ready to try. He was having problems with his tyres over the last 10 laps, and that was our time to attack, but the last 10 laps didn't come after the safety car. It's difficult here, there's not much space,” said the two-time
Formula 1 world champion.
The Spaniard finished in 2nd place as a result ahead of Jenson Button’s McLaren. The race was quite entertaining with all the drama and the confusion but in the end, Sebastian Vettel increased his lead after scoring his 5th victory
of the season.
The Spaniard on the other hand is in 5th place in the drivers’ standings with just 69 points.
