Ferrari's Fernando Alonso sets his eyes on his third title
Italian driver Fernando Alonso is all set to battle it out for the 2010 season in all his strength and determination once again. Fernando Alonso’s pointless return after the Belgian GP left the driver in despair as it dimmed his hopes of getting his hands on the world title. However, the Ferrari driver entered his team’s home race last week at the historical Monza racetrack and the result reignited his hopes of clinching the 2010 World Championship title.
At the Belgian Grand Prix last month, the Ferrari driver was really distressed as he returned pointless from one of the very crucial races of the year. However, this weekend revived Alonso’s hopes of fighting for the top slot.
Alonso leapt from the fifth spot to the third in drivers’ standings with a total of 166 points.
This victory brought Alonso’s third race win of the season along with a chance to win the 2010 Championships title. Previously, he had won the season opener at Bahrain followed by the controversial German Grand Prix.
The team has made a remarkable return to form as they were able to bag more points than any other team in the last four races of the season on the most challenging circuits of the calendar year.
Ferrari’s F10 performed brilliantly on all the circuits but all the tracks were very different in nature from one another. With Ferrari’s ongoing pace and form, chances for a third championship win have increased for Alonso, who has till date won two World Championship titles. He bagged his first title in 2005 and later in 2006 when he successfully defended his championship title despite facing a very competitive season.
“Despite Spa, where the accident on the first lap weighed heavily like a stone, Ferrari and I have scored more points than anyone else in these last four races,” Alonso wrote on his official blog on Ferrari’s website.
He further wrote that the team felt more confident and determined as the car had kept on improving with each passing race. Moreover, what confirms their F10 to be one of the most competitive cars of the season is the fact that they were able to perform exceptionally well in most of the past races, thus proving the versatility of the package in different conditions and venues.
The driver further expressed his gratitude to the entire crew of the factory by stopping at Ferrari’s Maranello factory after the Monza race victory, to cherish the trophy with all the people who had worked in making a highly competitive car for him. The Spanish driver also visited the factory a week prior to the race and was impressed by the sheer hard work and fighting spirit that every teammate had.
“I had arrived in Maranello, confident that we could reignite our championship chances, even if I felt it would be very tough,” he further wrote at the website. “At Spa, things had not gone well, so it was hard to say beforehand what we might really be capable of. However, we knew that, as long as we did our best, we would be in with a chance and that’s how things turned out. Now, we can claim to have made a good step forward.”
He has returned with a very optimistic and positive frame of mind for Italy after conducting comprehensive meetings with Ferrari’s engineers. The team discussed the updates for the upcoming Singapore GP.
Moreover, Alonso also studied the Yeongam circuit for the Korean GP which is going to host its first race in October this year.
Alonso is now scheduled to visit his home in Spain in a few days time before the Formula One caravan sets for their next race in Singapore.
