Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso wants team to build a very competitive car for 2012 – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that the team has been doing everything to produce a dominating car for the 2012 season.
Alonso said that after they witnessed the dominance of the Red Bull car during the 2011 season, they have also been motivated to take more risks in order to design a car that can be very strong on the grid.
The Spaniard claimed that things are looking very bright for the 2012 version of the car. He said he saw the car in the wind tunnel and it looks good.
Alonso has been praised for his 2011 performance. He came in fourth in the drivers’ championship standing and helped his team secure a third place finish in the constructors’ championship. Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo also praised Alonso’s performances
and said that the Spaniard has one of the strongest heads on the grid and that is why he is so impressed by him.
Alonso did not have a competitive enough car for the 2011 season and has realised that that has been the major difference between him and the title holder of 2010 and 2011 Sebastian Vettel who has enjoyed success  helped by a very dominating RB 7.
“I've seen the car as I've been to Maranello for four days,” said Alonso during a Santander press conference in Madrid on Monday. “I've only seen the windtunnel version, but we have to wait. At this point of the season we all think we have the best car ahead
of next year. We have to wait until February when he put in on the track, to see the results and to see how fast it can go.”
“What's clear is that everybody in the team is very, very motivated ahead of next year,” he added.
Di Montezemolo has also urged that Ferrari need to improve on its previous performances in 2012 and warned Felipe Massa to perform better in order to save his race seat.
It would be interesting to see how fast the Ferrari will prove to be in 2012, but they have certainly shown all intent of doing all that they can to achieve excellence.
