Ferrari’s Marc Gene says Red Bull not champions yet, team will keep pushing – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Formula 1 test driver Marc Gene has stated that Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel are not champions yet in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Gene stated that although the lead of Red Bull is mammoth but still there is a long way to go and Ferrari will not give up that easily on the championship hopes.
Recently, Ferrari’s Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso, 99 points adrift of Vettel, stated that his chances in the 2011 season are over already.
However, Gene stated that if the Ferrari team works on the remaining part of the season race by race, there is still a long way to go before Red Bull can be declared champions.
“Will Vettel be champion? That kind of talk is premature. At other times they've experienced difficult situations. I don't think Ferrari will give up. We must continue to develop. They are not champions yet, and to see them as such would be a mistake,”
commented Gene.
Furthermore, Gene stated that Ferrari were stronger in Valencia but Red Bull were still able to be ahead, especially Vettel, which was interesting.
He said, “The truth is that we (Ferrari) are fighting face to face and that's good news. Alonso was on the pace for the whole (Valencia) race and they (Red Bull) had to push hard. I did wonder how much was due to the street circuit so I think at Silverstone
we will see things clearer.”
Although Ferrari have produced some pace in the last three races of the season, still they are far behind among points, which matters most. The Scarlet team was unable to get both their cars to the finish line which hindered their point scoring opportunity
in three consecutive races- Spain, Monaco and Montreal.
Nevertheless, Gene is still confident that Ferrari will come up with something special for the remainder of the season to take the 2011 championship to the wire, just as the Scarlet team did it in the 2010 season.
