Ferrari’s loss, a blessing for Formula One - Max Mosley
The Former FIA President, Max Mosley believes that the failure of Ferrari to bag the 2010 drivers' championship is a blessing for Formula One. According to him, the sport could have seen a series of new problems and disputes had
the red outfit bagged the championship.
Only at the last round of the season Abu Dhabi Grand prix, the mounting hopes of Fernando Alonso swept away, owing to a poor team strategy from Ferrari and a clever one from Red Bull. The championship winner of both the drivers’ as well as the constructors’
championship of 2010, Red Bull asked its driver, Mark Webber to make an early pit stop.  Following their strategy, Ferrari also asked the two times world champion to have a pit, which cost the driver his third championship.
After his pit, Alonso got stuck behind the Renault driver, Vitaly Petrov, at seventh place, and was unable to over take him all through the rest of the 40 laps. On the other hand, the Red Bull ace, Sebastian Vettel kept leading the caravan of cars after
having started the race from pole position. The positions of both stayed unaltered until they saw the chequered flag, granting Vettel his first championship while Alonso ended the season at second place losing his third title.
Mosley commented on the champion results saying, "He (Vettel) deserved to win and is in every respect an excellent World Champion. He is a very likeable person and has a relaxed, natural appearance."
When the auto sport’s ‘God Father’ was asked about Alonso's defeat he very firmly explained, "Ferrari did an excellent job from the mid-season onwards. They were almost out of the race but managed to bring themselves into play. But in the end I'm still happy
that Ferrari didn't win."
He is of the view that had the team bagged the championship it would have brought disgrace to a very exciting season in the sport’s history. As per the 70-year-old man, Ferrari’s team orders at the German GP, were a clear breach of the law as the team granted
Felipe Massa’s victory to Alonso.
He concluded saying, "It would have given the world an unpleasant debate about how Ferrari came to it. The topic of team orders would have come up again. Whether that would have been good for Formula One I doubt it.”
Although it was a strategic mistake of Ferrari that deprived it from having bagged another championship, Mosley takes it as a blessing for the sport.
