Ferret Food Questions, need lots of advice.?

I bought my ferret this last Saturday (male, 20-21 weeks old) I did a good 2-3 months of research before the purchase, also spent time with my husband's mother's 8 ferrets, bought all the supplies, spent a small fortune on him. I've even made up a spare room all for him and his play time, I sit in there with him for his play periods never letting him out of my site. Anyways, I hear MANY different opinions on food mostly. Everything from he needs to eat only marshalls or don't feed him marshalls, or only feed him raw meat and even rodents (which I can't do the rodent thing, I've had mice as pets too before). I've heard to mix foods to get them used to another, or not to because it would kill him. So much to learn and I need all the advice I can get. Seems doing all this research that I thought was enough, really wasn't. Most websites even have different opinions. Right now I am mixing Marshalls, Duk Soup and Ferretvite with hot water until mushy and cooled. Is Evo the way to go? Help =)

  1. What you are feeding is fine but there is always room for improvement.  I'm curious about the ferrivite...how much are you using?  Anywho...there is a prescribed amount on the tube.

Evo is a good food.  I didn't personally like it though.  I now feed 8in1 Ultimate and Wellness Core cat/kitten.

  2. I dont think that ferrets are quite as diet sensitive as many people believe... I do know that Marshalls is made primarily of fish, which will cause their waste to stink really bad. And Ive heard that fish products are bad for them as well... I compared a bag of Zupreem 8n1 to a bag of Purina Kitten Chow and the protein (the most important part) is relatively the same. I feed my ferrets Purina Kitten Chow and they're perfectly healthy. Neither one has been sick a day in their lives (and I've had them for close to two years!) I don't feed them treats mainly because they don't like them...  anyways... I wouldn't worry about what you are feeding them so much as long as they are healthy and happy!
