Ferret medicine, anyone know of some??

Okay well i was wondering, is there like, ferret pain killers I could get?

Like in my previous question, I stated how my ferret fell. And now I'm paranoid of him being in pain, his hips are a bit sore but he can still walk and run. His personality has changed a bit though, he's a bit more aggressive and not in his usual playful ways, so i think its all relating to his hips(well its more like the soft area by his upper leg, which in other words is his sides).

But ya, is there medicine I could give to him? Or would i HAVE to go see a vet(there aren't many vets that know about ferrets any there isn't much money at the moment but I'm selling my stuff to get some for my hunny) and if i have to go see a vet for medicine, i might want to get ex-rays jsut to be on the safe side. How much would it cost?

But ya im very sketchy about going to the vet, so if anyone knows of any medicine my ferret could have thatd be great if you could tell me!

I know there are some human stuff they can have, but is there any for pain?

Thanks everyone, its much appreciated that your helping my little guy

  1. Hello again. First of all, do NOT give your ferret any human pain killers without a vet's permission. Some human pain killers are poisonous to ferrets and will kill them. Second, you really do need to get the ferret to a vet. He could have a broken bone or other serious injury. Ferrets are normally very stoic animals, meaning they don't tend to show when they are in pain, or ill. So for your ferret to act aggressive like that, means that he must be in a great deal of pain. X-rays and the vet visit will likely cost you between $100 and $175, depending on the vet and just what treatment is needed. More, of course, if surgery or extensive care is needed. In the mean time, just comfort him as much as possible. Do you have any ferretone to give him? I have only met two ferrets in my life that didn't like ferretone as a treat. Please keep us updated on how he's doing.

  2. Sketchy about going to the vet, eh?  Well...sorry to say, your ferret needs to see a vet.  NEVER self medicate your ferret without first consulting a veterinarian.

  3. If your ferret is becoming aggressive then you should take him to the vet. When pets are very friendly and then get hurt and become aggressive it means it is hurt and really feeling alot of pain. He could have possible broken something. Also with their backs he could have possible hurt that. Take him in as soon as possible.
