The cage will hold up to 6 rats. I did the calculation at http://www.cavyrescue.co.uk/rat-cages.sh... without the stand.

I'd be cautious at getting a ferret nation cage if I were you. Smaller/Younger rats may escape because the spacing is 1" (I measured my ferret nation cage)

If you do end up getting the cage though, I'd recommend getting it from ferret.com. They've got it cheaper then any petstore I've seen it in and that includes the shipping.

Well, I used the rat calaculator on this site:

using 2 cubic feet  per rat as recommended

36 by 25 by 38inches for the Ferret nation but that includes the stand.  So you need the measurements without the stand to get a correct number.

It says 9 rats!  I think a more accurate figure would be 6 rats.
