Well, my mom is going to get me ferret but she's a little worried about price. She works VERY hard to get money and my grandma is willing to chip in for the ferret. Is it going to be more then $300 for everything? And another question: Do you pay anything to adopt a ferret?

Guys, I REALLY WANT A FERRET. I've been OBSESSED with getting one, but I do have to wait. :l I just need some advice.

  1. You must not have had any experience with ferrets.

    they are like pack rats.

they will take anything small, shiny, chewy, makes noise, moves.

they will steal all your stuff.

They are also in the weasel family and are mean. they will try to kill other small animals.

  2. Yes. Wayy more than 300. They cost thousands of dollars to care for a year.

There are vet bills for vaccines that you HAVE to get. Food, cages (don't skimp on this, they should have a large cage.). You also have to spend at least 3 hours a day socializing with them. I know what it's like to really really really want an animal, but sometimes you have to think about if the animal is really the best animal for you and if you'd really be the best owner for the animal. I really wanted a ferret, and was disappointed when I decided not to get one because I couldn't afford taking care of one. They are sweet, cute, funny, and cuddly, which is EXTREMELY  tempting, but you have to do what's best for you and the ferret.

  3. Well when I bought my ferret it was $150.00

    For a cage it depends.

it can rage anywhere in price

I would go onto different website like

    pestmart.com

    craigslist.com

    ebay.com

and see if they have any cages.

You dont have to use a ferret cage somtime you can get a cage that is used originally for guinea pigs or hamsters.

For food..your ferret can eat regular ferret food or cat food can also be used..

    I used cat food sometimes.

And then little things like a ferret hammock or a bed etc. Isnt much.

You would also need like a saw-dust type material for the lining of the cage..

but there is a certain type of linig you should use because it wobnt irratate the ferrets sin I just forget what its called.

Just shop around for items and when you find something that is good but reasonable in price then settle on it..

It never hurts to shop around..

Ohh yea if you get a ferret too make sure you clean the cage out atleast 3x a week or you will start to get an awful smell.

    GOOD LUCK!

*Oh and if you need help ith anything else you can messeg me i dont mind.

  4. ive got several over the years free out of the classifieds in the local newspaper

  5. if possible get one from a shelter NOT a pet store.. sometimes they come with free supplies or the shelter might sell you cheap used ones

honestly if you are worried about money.. DO NOT get a ferret - get a rabbit instead - they are cheaper to feed.. and over all a much easier pet to care for...

plus vet bills and initial cost will be lower in bunnies..

  6. i dont know about adopting but at like petco there maybe 40 or so so yea 300 is wayy enough

  7. well, besides the ferret, not sure if 300$ is enough. Depends on the size of cage you get, food, toys and what not. Where i live, if i had 300 to get a cage and supplies, it would probably not be enough. A cage itself can be anywhere rom 100-300. For just the cage, (they need a large cage). Plus the food here, marshall, (best brand to buy), is 30$ for a jug the size a milk carton. I got my litter box for a dollar, it's a stack-able storage bin, would work great, comes in many different sizes and colours.

Don't spend a whole lot of money on toys, you can get hanging bird toys for like 2$ and hang it in their cage, they like those. I wouldn't spend more than 10$ for toys.

If you get a cage that's in between 100$-150$, than 300$ should be fine. But it all depends the price you pay for a cage. Check classified ads, this is a really good site!

www.kijiji.com/ca (com for USA and places like that, ca for Canada).

Go to that site, and click on your location, and you may be able to find a good in-expensive cage.

    Good luck!

Oh by the way, this is what a stack-able storage bin looks like.
