  1. You should read "Ferrets for Dummies", lists everything and is very helpful, also check out the website www.everythingferret.com

    Do research before getting ferrets.

Ferrets don't smell any more then a dog - just different.

  2. If that is the "one" thing you do not know, you did not do enough research. Yahoo search some ferret care sites now, and learn about the cage and supplies.

  3. food for your ferret

a food dish (one hard to tip)

a water dish (one hard to tip) or water bottle

    litter boxes

    litter

    bedding (not wood shavings)

    a cage

    ferret shampoo

a collar and a little bell

pet claw clippers (large human-nail clippers work, but not quite as well)

    toys (ferretproofed)

a veterinarian who is familiar with ferrets

    Linatone or Ferretone

    Bitter Apple or something similar

    a harness and leash (optional)

To make a long post short, here are a few good websites.

This is a website that will point you to a lot of good information about Ferrets and Ferret care.

Excellent and good (best) priced online Ferret Store.

The Best cage out there is the Ferret Nation 141, 142, and 143.

I would suggest the 142 for two Ferrets.

You can also find them on Ebay for cheaper, but not by much when you include shipping.

Do LOTS of research before your purchase. Ferrets are not cheap pets, and they need a lot of time (at least 4 hours a day) out of their cage. Lots of love, attention and a good vet.

  4. This is what I post to all of the ferret wanters. I've had 5 ferrets at one time, now I have three. They are costly. Do plenty of research to prepare!

Initial price of ferret and supplies - over $300 - a ferret needs a large cage, so you're looking at $150-$200 on the cage alone. I recommend Super Pet's Ferret Kingdom or the Ferret Nation ($225). The ferret will cost you anywhere from $75-$150. Look into adopting a ferret before you go to the petstore! People decide to get them then they realize they stink and they need to be taken out of the cage daily and they decide to get rid of them. The supplies can be VERY expensive!! Especially food.

Montly supplies - you're looking around $30 a month. You can buy marshall ferret food at ferret.com for a discounted price - 35 lbs for $48 whereas 7lbs at Petsmart is $25 - you need to buy them lots of playtoys, litter, bedding, vitamin supplements, so around $20-$30

Initial Required Supplies (This is what I have):

    Ferret

    Cage

    Bedding

    Food

    Water Bottle and Hook

    Food Bowl

    Litter

    Harness and Leash

    Collar with bell

    Fur-tone

    Furovite

    Marshall Bi-Odor

    Styptic powder

    Flea and tick spray

    Ferret shampoo

    Tunnels

    Ball toys

    LOTS of treats - raisins

    Hammocks - they love them!

    Comb and Brush

    Nail clippers

and I'm sure theres a bunch more you need but the list was getting long so I'm stpping :)

Monthly supplies are just what you run out of. Also, they need to be seen by the vet once a year which can be VERY costly. They can develop ADV or Aleutians disease and you're looking at thousands for recovery.
