Question:

Ferrets I bought at Pet Co.?

I got my first ferret at one Pet Co. in MA and they said she is a Marshalls ferret. Ok, didn't think anything. After a week or two of having her I was curious and looked for her 2 dots (meaning she is descented and fixed), there aren't any- anywhere. When I bought another baby 2 days ago at Pet Co. in RI it was a Marshalls ferret (as are all in Pet Co.) I took my 1st one with me to see which one she seemed to get a long with. I asked the lady to find her's dots but she didn't find them anyhow. Now I am wondering where did my little girl come from? I don't care that she isn't Marshalls, and I wouldn't give her back. Anyone have any clue or insight on this? I am lost. Where could she be from and how can they say one is a Marshalls when it is not?

  1. whats marshalls?

  2. hi i am a member of  PETA and we did some research on pet co recently and found that they are getting their animals sick or healthy from unlicensed and unqualified breeders, i'm not saying that's were ur ferret came from but it could be why u can't find the dots u are looking for. please go to ur local shelter to adopt a ferret then u know u are saving a life. when u buy from a pet store u are supporting all the mill breeders and keeping them in business i hope i have helped

  3. She is most likely a path valley farms ferret. They don't have tattoos

To the other poster if she is a marshalls she couldn't have gotten missed in the tattoo department because the do that while they are alseep during spay neuter and descenting surgery

  4. Since Petco and other large chain pet stores really only buy from their suppliers, I'd say maybe that yours got missed in the tattoo department at the breeders.

If your ferret was spayed/neutered you should be able to find a small incision scar. It made be difficult to find since ferrets are pretty squirmy.

Most critters including fish and all supplies are bought from a warehouse and then shipped as an order to the large chain stores.

I worked for a pet supply company, and was in charge of taking care of the small mammals, which also included filling orders. The ferrets we got in came directly from the breeder which was Marshall. I remember some who were missing their ear dots, but came in the same box as others tattooed.

I would think if you bought your ferret from a privately owned pet shop, you could question if it was a Marshall or not.

Hope this helped a little bit.
