Question:

Ferrets and cat food?

I don't plan on changing my ferrets diet. I currently feed my ferrets Totally Ferret for adults, which my vet recommended as one of the better brands of ferret food. One of my ferrets just LOVES cat food. If there's a plate out for the cat, he goes directly to it. Is it alright to give it to him occasionally as a little treat? (:

  1. As an occasional treat, why not?

Just not in large quantities and as a permanent diet.

Cat foods lack things like Taurine and are too high carb and sometimes too low fat.

A few kibbles won't hurt him though.

LOL, it's definitely better than cereal or Craisins. Those are WAYYYY to high in carbs and contain no nutrition at all for your ferts.

  2. My ferrets love cat food too and will eat it if available to them. Of course I feed them ferret food as a regular diet, but if they eat a little cat food now and then I think its' ok.

  3. My ferret is the same way, my vet told me if my ferret occasionally snacked on the cat food it wouldnt harm it, it just doesnt have a high enough amount of vitamins for it. Just make sure it mostly eats a high-quality ferret food and that you dont feed your ferret fruit, vegetables, or starches as they are all VERY bad for your ferret even though most ferrets tend to love the taste of them.

  4. erm... i wouldn't its not too healthy for them but you can give them fruit loops or craisins my ferrets love those
