The 3 most important parts of a FM transmitter are -

1. RF Oscillator (capacitor + inductor)

2. amplifier (transistor or op-amp)

3. power source

I made the inductor of copper wire. do I need a ferrite bead or core to insert into the wire?

  1. No. Ferrite is only good as an inductor core up to about 12MHz. The fm band is around 100MHz. You should use an air core. At those sort of frequencies, you will not need an excessive amount of turns.
