  1. Most of these services are offered onboard cruise ships, mainly when they reposition from one region of the world to another (with one exception).  A cruise ship is actually a pretty good way to make this trip as there's a wide assortment of activities available during the trip, good food, and an attentive staff.

In addition, typically these trips cost less than a "freighter cruise."

Princess offers serveral itineraries from Australia to the US this time of year as they move ships from the South Pacific to the West Coast of the US for the Alaska cruise season.  Most of these sailings have already occured so you'll be looking at 2008 if you want to try this.

The one exception is Trans-Atlantic service.  Cunard is the only cruise line that offers regularly scheduled Trans-Atlantic service, sailings are between Southampton and New York.  These are expensive trips, however they are well worth it.  Typically these sailings are considered "once in a lifetime" events.

  2. I know sometimes you can book passage on freighters but I have no idea how its done.hmmmm, I think I would start by google searching shipping import export co.

However, ( now I'll be your Mum LOL) This can be a dangerous deal. No laws are enforced at sea, unless you happen to have a very moral Capt.  I hope your not traveling alone. As a woman, I would never travel this way. It's not safe to travel on cruise ships alone either. When we travel on board, we have a strict buddy system.
