Fetu’u Vainikolo signs for Connacht – Rugby news
Irish professional rugby union is Connacht Rugby popularly renowned as Connacht has acquired the services of current Highlanders Winger Fetu’u Vainikolo.
Fetu’u Vainikolo will start for Connacht in next season. The signing has been officially announced on the Connacht’s international website with part of the statement confirming that the Highlanders Winger Fetu’u Vainikolo will join them from the start of
season year. The contract has been signed initially for the two years.
The 26-year-old Highlanders Winger Fetu’u Vainikolo made his super rugby debut for Highlanders, in super rugby 2008 season in their match against the Reds. Fetu’u Vainikolo is a Tongan native and move to the New Zealand when he was 12. He started his professional
rugby career in 2007 when he joined New Zealand province team Northland. He made 22 appearances for Northland Province team and scored 10 tries.
Later Fetu’u Vainikolo moved to Otago and appeared for them the field 15 times before making his debut in SANZAR Super Rugby League.
Highlanders Winger Fetu’u Vainikolo has good attacking and defensive abilities. When defending he defends like a solid wall and with balls in his hand he simply can be described as explosives. Fetu’u Vainikolo has a thing for scoring tries and has the skills
to pull up a try from anywhere on the pitch.
Connacht is currently placed at eight places in the Magners League with winning seven of their 19 games played. They have lost 11 games, draw a single game, and have managed 39 points as they gear up for the European Challenge Cup.
Fetu’u Vainikolo’s inclusion in the team is expected to better the results for the Connacht. Eric Elwood, the Connacht’s coach has praised the Fetu’u Vainikolo try scoring skills and admitted that his inclusion in the side will have a positive impact.
He commented, “We’re really looking forward to Fetu’u joining us, he has shown he can score tries from anywhere on the pitch and we are excited to have a player of his skill and expertise joining the team. Having a player of his pace and physicality in the
backs will add an extra dimension to our game.”
Since 2008, he has scored 13 tries while featuring for the Highlanders in the Super Rugby Series. However, during Super XV this year Fetu’u Vainikolo has not scored a single try so far. Highlanders currently are placed 6th in the combined standings. Out
of the six games, Highlanders have played this year they have won four and lose two.
