  1. 1. it really depends i have the same problem and yes they do put the hooks and rubberbands on them but i would say around adverage it is around like 4 months and they sometimes use these rubberband to fix your overbite...

    2. the best colors are i think you should get blue(makes your teeth whiter or red (looks great) or silver is what males generally get but i dont like it becuase you are trying to hide the fact that you have braces but you really cant do that just face it i also like orange!!!

    3. And alot of times if you have to bad of an overbite then they wont but em all on but if your overbite is good then most of them will generally put them all on if possible but they mite put things on the back of your fornt teeth for the first year or so that will make you not bite down so hard on your braces

4.ON the first few days you will want plenty of soups puddings jello yogurts smoothies milkshakes and icecreams learn to like this stuff because it is all you will be eating for everytime you get your baces tightended

basically all the rest of the stuff the ortho will tell you best of luck i hope i answered all of your questions

  2. For me, I went every 3 months to have them tightened and get new bands (which are the colored part that you get to pick out). There is a long wire that goes across each row of teeth and if that comes out then you have to go in and have them put it back in. It only happened to me once in 2 years of having braces though. As for colors, don't do white! I got them once and they will start to change color and they aren't pretty! Yellow bands will make your teeth look like they are super yellow from far away since you can't see that they're braces. I liked all the other colors though. The rubber bands for an over/under bite can be put on whenever the orthodontist feels it's necessary. They just put very small hooks on the ends of the braces and you put the bands around them. How long those are on depends on how consistent you are in wearing them. It can be a very short process (1 to 2 months) if you wear them every night (and day if you are told to) but not wearing the bands for even a week may set your jaw back to where it was and make the process very long. Once you get braces the eating isn't a huge deal. Brushing can be annoying because things can get stuck in your braces but they will give you a little tool to help clean them out. I'd stay away from things like Jolly Ranchers or caramel because they can pull the brackets off and then you have to sit through them re-gluing it onto your tooth. Overall, braces aren't bad at all and your teeth will look so great when you get them off. Hope all my ramblings helped somewhat!

  3. 1. It really depends on how bad your teeth are. It varies anywhere from 4-6 weeks, or so I've heard. I go every 5 weeks.

    2. I really don't know exactly, but I've had my top braces for about 9 weeks, and they have moved down a lot. But yes, the bracket has a little hook like thing, for rubber bands.

    3. Depends of what you want. If you want to show them of, go with bright and dark colors: blue, orange, hot pink, etc. If you want something more subtle, go with baby blue, silver, light pink, etc. But definitely don't get black, yellow, green or white (stains very fast).

    4. Again, it depends, you might get them only on the top, or only on the bottom. Or on all your teeth. The ortho will explain how they will do it before they put them on.

    5. The first week is the worst, so try to stick with soft or liquidy foods, like mashed potatoes, mac n' cheese, soups, milkshakes, ice cream, etc. After the first week, you'll be able to eat anything you want :]

And keep pain relievers on hand, Tylenol works good for me :]

    And good luck!

  4. You go every month to have new wires and bands put on the bracket.

For me, it took about 4 months for my canine teeth to come down. Depends on how high they are. You do wear the bands all the time; take them out to eat and then you just pop them back on again. Change them morning and night.

Do you mean band colors or the bracket? The bracket comes in regular silver and sometimes clear. As for bands, I usually went with the light grey band; it blends the best. If you go with colors, I would avoid green and black; it looks like food is stuck in your teeth and black gives the "blackout effect" to teeth when taking a pic.

The braces are almost always put on in one day. Eliminates a hassle.

Since your teeth will be sore for awhile, I suggest foods like:

    - Scrambled eggs, Tuna sandwich (don't toast the bread; toast tends aggravite the soreness at first), Potato/Mash Potato, Oatmeal, open faced sandwich on thin bread, definitely soup. Just avoid crisp or somewhat-chewy foods for awhile; those pull on the teeth and cause soreness.

To minimize soreness at the appointments, take a tylenol(sp?) like 20 minutes before the app. By the time you arrive the pill kicks in and helps out.

If you notice that you are grinding your teeth, massage your jaw and cheek area for a minute. It helps relax the muscles and release some tension.

  5. 1.  Normally, you would go to a check up appointment every month to get them tightened.  It seems to be required, but the requirements could be different from each orthodontist.  The point of the monthly check up is so that the old, loosened rubber bands can be replaced with new, tighter ones to further complete the process of you getting braces.  Just about once a month is normal, unless something happens.  For example, if a bracket falls off when eating or brushing, make an appointment immediately with your orthodontist so that you are able to make sure your teeth do not shift back to their original positions.  If your rubber band falls off, try, but don't do anything fatal, to put it back on, if it fails, call your orthodontist.  If the wire is crooked or out of alignment, then you should immediately make an appointment.  Usually, your orthodontist would give you a list of what to do when something happens to your braces.

    2.  First, I'm not sure which rubber bands you are talking about.  The rubber bands that fit on the brackets are already given when your braces are completely assembled.  The time it takes for your canine teeth to come down completely depends upon yourself.  This is nothing you can control either.  It depends on how crooked the original alignment of your canine to your other teeth are.  If it is extremely crooked, it might take a few months while if it is only slightly out of alignment, it might take just a few days to a few weeks.

The other rubber bands are ones that you might receive when your experience with braces is about to end.  These rubber bands are supposed to pull the upper jaw and lower jaw together so when you close your mouth/clench your teeth, the teeth would fit normally.

    3.  I suggest silver, for metal braces because they aren't as easily noticeable and are supposedly not as easy to stain.  Clear is fine, but it stains easily.  Black is a bit more noticeable, but stains won't come out often.

    4.  Yes, braces are installed all in one day, in about an hour's worth of time.  First they would supposedly apply a cement type glue [that doesn't really taste like anything, but is slightly minty] that will keep the brackets on your teeth.  Then, they will stick on the brackets.  After, they will trim a thin wire and fit it to your mouth before clicking it into the small hooks of the brackets.  Finally, the rubber bands are installed onto the brackets, and this is the part when you would normally feel a bit of "pain" due to the sudden tightness your teeth are experiencing.  It isn't all that painful, and the feeling lasts about 3 days if your teeth aren't extremely crooked.  If extremely out of shape, the most the feeling should last is 2 weeks.

    5.  I recommend at the beginning, when you first install your braces that you eat softer foods, like soup or mashed potatoes.  Something that doesn't require as much chewing.  However, if you are fine with eating regularly, and the tightened feeling doesn't bother you, anything is fine.  However, do not eat gum [for fear of it accidentally pulling your brackets or wire off], popcorn is alright, except the shell of the kernals may become lodged between your teeth or between your gum, making it extremely difficult to remove.  Apples and other harder fruits should be diced.  Carrots should be cooks so that they are soft.  Broccoli is not recommended during your braces experience.  Do not chew on ice or the tip of your pencil/pen.  Hard candies are alright once in a while as long as you brush and floss scrutinizingly, but do not bite on it.  You may only allow it to dissolve.  Soft candies are not recommended [like gum].  Any type of sodas is discouraged unless you brush and floss scrutinizingly [like hard candies].

    6.  Make sure to brush and floss daily.  Brush lightly above and below the bracket and make sure to get the inside as well along with the "tearing/chewing the food" part.  Floss between your teeth.  Usually, the orthodontist would supply you with a kit full of all this information including what you should or should not do in case something happens to your braces, what you should or should not eat, along with supplies to take care of both your braces and teeth.  There should be a plastic needle that will allow you to poke the string of the floss through, allowing you to floss.  Mouthwash is highly recommended.

    Good luck!!

I hope this helped a bit.

  6. You get them tightened every couple of months, nothing big.

My canine teeth are in the process of coming down. I had oral surgery, and after that I got little elastic tied from my tooth to my braces wire..It can take any amount of time for the canine teeth to come down. I had surgery in september and one of my teeth is completley down, and the other is definitely taking its time...So its depends.

I love any bright colors. I don't reccomend white (turns out the color of the food you eat) and silver turns out to be this icky grey..So dont do those colors.

They may put all of your braces on in one day, and they might not.

You can eat pudding, jello and soft food...or just anything soft that you cut up.

    Good Luck!

And I hope your smile turns out nice & straight. :]

  7. It depends on your teeth, i go in once a month but before i went in once every other month. It depends on where your teeth are at.

Also, rubber bands help A LOT when trying to pull down teeth but then again it depends on your roots and gums.. but it normally takes 1-3 months. For me, i got them when my baby teeth haven't completely fallen out yet so i had to make 2 trips to get the braces on but if your permenant teeth have come in then they put it on all on the same day.

I always get clear, clear is the best way to go because it'll go with everything you wear and if you have gold brackets and wires [like me] you get a lot of complements. The best thing to stay away from is carmel apples, it's so thick and it's hard to bite into the apple itself so your wire can come loose.

TIPS: When using rubber bands, even though you may think that using two will make your teeth come down fast DONT DO IT! You will damage the brackets and hooks used for the rubber bands. If you get a bar, it will or might be painful because it's going to cut into your tounge until it leaves a mark, if the pain is too much to handle apply wax to it. Make sure you ask for wax! and the first couple days with braces, your teeth will be REALLY sore so the best think to eat is like mashed potatoes or soup.Your teeth will become very sensitive to the slightest touch.

    Best of Luck!
