Dear

At first, the weather is now "monsoon", started rainy season in Kerala. So I don't think it will be a great trip to Kovalam Beach in this season.

1. You can bring money as travelers cheque or plastic money (credit/debit card) as per your wish, no restriction. But in the case of cash, there will be a limitation to bring, like equivalant to USD 5000.

2. The cash bringing extra will be depending the expenditures that you are going to do here. Better to bring in USD, if you do.

3. A local hotel (smallest) will charge 20 INR + for an average lunch meal. But it will vary depending hotels, an average one will charge you INR 30-50 now. Depending the star rating it will go upwards.

4. Better to drink mineral / bottled water, that to drink tap water.

5. In Kovalam, there is a beach that is for public access, and you can go to other places also nearby Kovalam. Vizhinjam Port is a near by location, Poonthura Fishing harbor is also. And if you have enough time, you can visit other areas of trivandrum too, like Planetarium in city, Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Veli, Museum, Zoo, etc...

6. Public transport bus is cheap in Kerala, and you can find KSRTC and Private buses, it is safe.

8. If you are a foreigner, don't depend any local people, or keep them in a distance, there are too much crimes are going on due to foreign tourist's carelessness. Also they will loot maximum. If you need to go outside for a trip ask the hotel desk for a taxi cab.
