The Malaga defender seems set to join Ronald Koeman’s side, as the Eredivisie club has opened talks with La Liga outfit.

The Amsterdammers have yet to approach the Spanish outfit. However, the Rotterdam giants have started talks with La Liga side over the transfer of the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar stopper.
Feyenoord are keen to bring a perfect replacement for their centre-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ron-Vlaar-c31697, who recently moved away from De Kuip Stadion to join English Premier League outfit, Aston Villa.
The 32-year-old defender, who has been plying his trade at La Rosaleda since the summer of 2011, has plenty of experience under his belt, and the Rotterdammers management see him as a perfect addition to their squad.
Ronald Koeman, the Stadiumclub head coach, has confirmed that his side has initiated process to lure the veteran centre-back to De Kuip Stadion this summer.
“It's an ongoing story. It all depends on the terms of the transfer. It's a matter of money. But I have a good feeling about it”, Koeman was quoted as saying to De Telegraaf.
The Dutch trainer, who took the reins of the fallen Eredivisie giants at the start of the 2011/12 season and guided the club to finish second on the league table, went on to insist that Mathijsen’s arrival will help his side’s young defenders a lot.
“I think that Mathijsen will have a positive influence on the development of players such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stefan-de-Vrij-c33987. That's the next step this team has to make”, Koeman concluded.
Mathijsen, who has played over 200 league matches in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 all together, has an ongoing contract at La Rosaleda that runs until the end of the 2012/13 season.
Reports indicate that the Spanish outfit will let go of their star defender if an offer in the region of six million Euros comes in before the summer transfer window slams shut, and it seems unlikely that Feyenoord will have a problem meeting the asking
price.
