Feyenoord Rotterdam have expressed keen interest in bringing Arsenal FC’s Ryo Miyaichi on loan for the upcoming 2011/12 campaign. The 18-year-old played the second half of the 2010/11 season at De Kuip Stadion and impressed many with his supreme performances.
Reports indicate that Martin van Geel, Feyenoord technical director, would be arriving in London next month to discuss possibilities of another loan spell for the young winger.
Arsene Wenger, the Gunners manager, has indicated that he wants to keep the Japanese sensation at Emirates. However, Wenger’s desire to retain the youngster depends upon Miyaichi acquiring a work permit.
Meanwhile, the Rotterdam giants are hoping to acquire services of the young winger for the 2011/12 campaign. Van Geel revealed that he is planning a visit to London next month.
“Arsenal are waiting for a yes or no on the application of a work permit for Ryo. In mid-August, they hope to obtain an answer about it and I'm actually planning to fly to London”, Van Geel said while talking to the Dutch media.
The technical director earlier revealed that the 18-year-old would not be needed in the new season due to the presence of Jerson Cabral and Sekou Cisse, who normally play on the left flank. However, Van Geel now admits that the promising youngster will certainly
add value to his side’s attacking options.
“We're not so strong in terms of our attackers. Ryo can actually deal with all positions up front. In regards to the left wing, that is doubly occupied. But for all other places up front we could do with strengthening”, the technical director concluded.
After failing to compete for top honours in the last nine seasons, the 2010/2011 season was also not an exception as De Stadionclub eventually finished 10th in the league table after a dreadful start to the campaign. Should they successfully acquire
Miyaichi on loan for the new season, their chances of achieving a good place by the end of the 2011/2012 campaign would increase manifolds.
