The 21-year-old tore a cruciate ligament in his left knee on September 25 and is expected to remain sidelined until March 2012.
However, recent reports from De Kuip Stadion have confirmed that the youngster has undergone a successful surgery on his injured knee. The club doctor, Casper van Eyck, stated on the club's website:
“He has a new ligament. The surgery went very well”.
After the surgery, Ramsteijn revealed that he is feeling better and hoped to regain his fitness at the earliest.
“Yesterday, I was really tired and I spent almost all the day sleeping. Today, I am feeling much better. Now, I have to spend one whole month under the supervision of medical staff. The better the surgery goes, the better the recovery should proceed”, the
21-year-old stopper was quoted as saying to the media.
The youngster then went on to reveal that he must take complete rest to recover from the surgery, before he starts the rehabilitation process with the club.
“Yes, the rehabilitation is an important process in the road to recovery. I must first take complete rest for at least two weeks to recover from the surgery and then I will rehabilitate at the club”, Ramsteijn concluded.
The versatile defender, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, arrived at De Kuip Stadion from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven earlier this year in the summer transfer window. Since his arrival, the youngster has impressed many in Rotterdam with his good performances.
Ramsteijn recently put pen to an extension to his ongoing contract that was due to expire at the end of the 2011/12 campaign. The new contract will keep him at De Kuip Stadion until the summer of 2014.
Although the youngster only managed to make seven appearances for the Rotterdam giants before the injury, his performances were enough to convince the club management to prolong his stay at De Kuip Stadion.
