Feyenoord Rotterdam’s Martin van Geel puts an end to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leroy-Fer-c22126’s transfer gossips – Eredivisie news
Martin van Geel, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 Rotterdam technical director, has clearly indicated that his side do not intend to let go of their starlet Leroy Fer in the ongoing summer transfer market. The 21-year-old has remained heavily linked with a host of European clubs
including http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede.
The central midfielder is a product of De Stadionclub’s youth academy and started his professional career at De Kuip Stadion in the 2007/08 season. The youngster has played well over 100 games so far and managed to find the back of the net on 13 occasions.
The Dutch International performed impressively in the season ended for the Rotterdam giants, scoring three goals in 23 appearances while providing a bagful of assists. His good performances attracted interest from a host of European clubs but the young midfielder
denied making a move abroad at this point of his career.
However, the 21-year-old was close to joining Twente in the ongoing summer transfer market and tabled a bid of 2.5 million Euros for the promising youngster’s signature. However, the Stadiumclub rejected the Tukkers offer and the move fell through.
Van Geel has now clearly indicated that his side do not intend to sell the youngster and want him to prolong his stay at De Kuip Stadion.
“We will absolutely not sell. If we want to live up to our sporting ambitions, we can simply not afford that. The door is closed. We already have eight million Euros from players we have sold. The departure of another key player would be unthinkable. We
have communicated with Leroy and his management”, Van Geel was quoted as saying to the media.
With the Stadiumclub technical director revealing his side’s intentions, it seems more than likely that the young midfielder would pursue his career at Feijenoord Stadion for another season.
However, the Rotterdam giants must seriously consider renewing the youngster’s current contract that is due to expire by the end of 2011/12 campaign.
