The 29-year-old has snubbed foreign interest in favour of plying his trade with the fallen Eredivisie giants until the summer of 2014.
Reports from Rotterdam confirm that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ruben-Schaken-c31854 has signed an extension to his current contract with Feyenoord Rotterdam.
The new contract will keep the midfield ace at De Kuip Stadion until the end of the 2013/14 season, with the Rotterdammers holding the option to extend the deal for one further season.
The 29-year-old arrived at the Rotterdam giants in the summer of 2010 after making 64 appearances for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VVV-Venlo-c40915. this term.
Although the midfielder-c*m-winger had been linked with several top European clubs in the ongoing winter transfer market, the Dutchman preferred to stay at the Rotterdammers.
“The contract extension is now official and I am very happy. It was a pretty difficult decision, because this is one of the last contracts of my career. I am almost 30 years old now. Financially it would have been interesting to move abroad, but it's not
worth it to give up everything I have here. I have made this decision for my family and because http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 are a fantastic club”, Schaken was quoted as saying to the club’s official website.
Martin van Geel, the Rotterdammers technical director, expressed his happiness after the 29-year-old successfully signed a contract extension. He stressed that the versatile midfielder has shown his class since arriving from VVV and made headlines following
his impressive performances at De Kuip Stadion.
“Ruben has shown great character this year and has made himself heard by breaking into the first team. We are very pleased that he has signed a new deal with the club”, Van Geel said while talking to the journalists.
The Amsterdam-born midfielder has performed highly this term in every fixture, and his performance against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven from December 4, 2011, deserves a special mention.
