Feyenoord Rotterdam suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat at the hands of PSV Eindhoven at Philips Stadion on Sunday, September 23. The Rotterdammers head coach, Ronald Koeman, was extremely disappointed with his side’s loss against
their arch rivals, but admitted that the Boeren’s impressive second-half display took the game away from his side.
PSV asserted their authority on the pitch right from the kick-off, and threatened the visiting side’s defence on a number of occasions. However, the Eindhoven giants failed to break the deadlock, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ola-Toivonen-c28363,
Dries Mertens and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luciano-c22574 Narsingh all missing the target.
The home side came close to grabbing the lead in the closing stages of the first-half, but Toivonen’s long range effort struck the woodwork, much to the dismay of d**k Advocaat.
“It was our game plan to play a compact defence and put pressure up front. It succeeded reasonably well in the first half”, Koeman was quoted as saying to the media in the post-match press-conference.
After the half-time break, the Eindhoven giants resumed proceedings in the same manner, and managed to break the deadlock in the 63rd minute through Toivonen.
The Rotterdammers tried to score the equaliser, but instead, they found themselves conceding another in the 73rd minute, when Georginio Wijnaldum's headed effort from a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dries-Mertens-c11679 free-kick found the back of the net.
Three minutes later, Narsingh’s strike sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory for PSV. Koeman admitted that his side failed to perform in the second-half, while the Boeren continued to dominate proceedings in front of their home crowd
to deservingly grab all three points.
“PSV were the better team after the break and deservedly took the lead. They posed threat in front of goal, whereas we were sloppy. I think http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 thoroughly deserved their win. In fact, we could have lost by a bigger margin”, Koeman
concluded.
