Feyenoord coach given vote of confidence after losing 10-0
Feyenoord head coach Mario Been has been given a vote of confidence by his club despite a disastrous 10-0 defeat at the hands of rivals PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie on Sunday, 24 October.
Jonathan Reis scored a hat-trick for the first time in senior football, while Jeremain Lens and Balazs Dzsudzsak claimed two goals each.
Ola Toivonen and Orlando Engelaar were also on target and an own goal by Bruno Martins Indi added extra humiliation to the Rotterdam side as PSV equaled their scoring record for the fourth time.
Despite the huge loss, which has left Feyenoord in 15th place in the table, the club’s technical director Leo Beenhakker has revealed that Been will be allowed to keep his job, adding that there was no way to change the past and the club should try to put
the result behind them as quickly as possible.
Beenhakker told reporters at a press conference, "We are still in full support of Mario Been and we're not even considering firing him. I can say that on behalf of the board and all the persons who are normally involved in this kind of matters. The current
technical staff is doing a great job and we're not planning to make any changes to the staff. "
"What happened in Eindhoven is simply unacceptable and really shouldn't have happened. However, it did happen and we can't change that any more. We have another important match coming up on Wednesday against VVV and that'll be the perfect opportunity for us
to bounce back and to show what we can do."
Feyenoord have got the Dutch season off to a poor start, having claimed just eight points from ten games so far. Their only victories have come over FC Utrecht and AA Gent.
