The 20-year-old’s rock solid showings have reportedly garnered him immense interest from European clubs, but the European champions have emerged as the favourites to land his signature in the January transfer window.
Reports in Dutch and English media indicate that Chelsea would be tabling a bid in the upcoming winter transfer market to acquire the services of Feyenoord Rotterdam central defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stefan-de-Vrij-c33987.
The 20-year-old started his professional career at De Kuip Stadion in the 2009/10 season, and made rapid developments to his game to cement his place in the Rotterdammers starting XI.
For the past couple of seasons, the youngster has remained a regular at the back for the Rotterdam giants, and his rock solid showings at the back have attracted him interest from several European clubs including the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, Sunderland, Newcastle
United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
However, the Blues have emerged as the favourites to land the promising young defender’s signature in the upcoming January transfer window, and would be tabling a bid in the region of six million Euros to lure the 20-year-old away from De Kuip Stadion.
The Dutch stopper, who has also represented the Oranje at senior level in two games, has thus far represented the fallen Eredivisie giants in close to 100 games in all competitions since making his debut in September 2009.
De Vrij has an ongoing contract at De Kuip Stadion that runs until the summer of 2014. However, the club management have expressed keenness to prolong his stay in Rotterdam by offering him a new and improved contract.
The Dutchman has reportedly denied thus far signing a contract extension, making it evident that he wants to move away from De Kuip Stadion in the near future.
With the youngster making it clear that he does not want to put pen to paper on a new contract, the Rotterdammers management would be willing to sell their prized asset before the start of the 2013/14 campaign rather than letting him go on a free transfer
in the summer of 2014.
However, it remains to be seen whether http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 would accept a bid to part ways with the 20-year-old in the January transfer window.
