The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 player has done well thus far to guide the Rotterdammers, and the club technical director Martin van Geel has revealed that his side wants to prolong the Dutch trainer’s stay at De Kuip Stadion.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 Rotterdam technical director, Martin van Geel, has revealed that his side wants to prolong the stay of Ronald Koeman, whose ongoing contract is due to expire at the end of the ongoing 2012/13 season, at De Kuip Stadion.
The 49-year-old tactician was appointed as the head coach of the Rotterdam giants at the start of the 2011/12 season, and the Dutch trainer did well to guide his side to a second place finish in his first season in-charge.
His consistent performances have convinced the club management that the former Barcelona defender-c*m-midfielder is the right man for the job, and the club technical director has confirmed that his side is keen to extend the Dutchman’s stay at De Kuip Stadion.
“We would love to (extend his deal). That we were second last year and now, even though we had to let some important players go, are fifth is clearly largely due to Ronald Koeman. We'll talk during the winter. We are very happy and I hope Ronald is too.
As a coach, he has the necessary experience of highs and lows, and perhaps he cherishes the situation in which he can work”, Van Geel was quoted as saying to the Dutch media in Rotterdam.
The 49-year-old hung up his boots in the summer of 1997, and started his professional coaching career in the 1999/2000 season at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vitesse-c40905 Arnhem.
After two seasons at GelreDome Stadion, the Dutchman took the reins of Ajax Amsterdam, where he managed to win several pieces of silverware before taking over the managerial hot seat at Benfica in the summer of 2005.
However, the Dutch mentor’s stay in Portuguese top flight was cut short, when he was appointed as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven head coach at the start of the 2006/07 season.
In spite of lifting the Eredivisie title with the Eindhoven giants, Koeman went on to leave the club to take over Valencia’s coaching http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar, where he received
the sack following his side’s abysmal showings in the first half of the 2009/10 season.
