Feyenoord’s Martin van Geel: Talks with Jordy are in the final phase – Dutch Eredivisie news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 Rotterdam technical director, Martin van Geel, has revealed that his side are in the final phase of extending Jordy Clasie’s ongoing contract. Reports indicate that the new contract will keep him at De Kuip Stadion until the summer of 2014.
The Stadiumclub technical director has stressed that the young midfielder will sign the new contract, as the talks are in the final stages. He revealed that the midfield ace has already agreed to the new contract details and only small details remain to
be worked out.
“The talks with Jordy are now approaching the final stage. It is now a case of working out the smaller details of the contract”, Van Geel said while talking to the media.
The young midfielder started his professional career at SBV Excelsior on loan in the 2010/11 season after graduating from the Stadiumclub’s youth academy.
Despite a host of European clubs taking keen interest in taking his signature in the summer transfer window, the 20-year-old decided to stay in Rotterdam to further polish his skills.
The youngster revealed that there would be many chances for him to pursue his career in one of the elite European leagues, and stressed that he will only move abroad when he is finished learning in Rotterdam.
Clasie, who played 32 matches for SBV Excelsior last season, admitted that the 2010/11 campaign helped him a lot.
“For me, it was a very important year. I owe a lot to the boys and to the coaches there. It was my first professional year and I played 32 straight games. I felt good and had the feeling that my skills are becoming stronger and began to understand the opponents”,
Clasie was quoted as saying to the media.
Clasie has started all of Stadiumclub's 14 matches thus far. The youngster has struggled to find the back of the net, but his useful assists have certainly made him one of the most influential players in the squad.
