Ffos Las Monday card called off due to waterlogged track
Ffos Las could not stage any horseracing event on Monday evening, as the officials had to abandon the card due to poor track conditions. Ten millimetres of overnight rain exacerbated the situation so badly that the track authorities were left with no option,
but to call off the day.
The spectators were expecting an exciting event, but the inhospitable weather did not let them witness any thrill. An inspection in the afternoon showed that surface was not good for racing. As a result, the officials did not take much time to realise that
the ground is in no position to stage any race.
Tim Long, clerk of the course, expressed disappointment over losing the meeting, admitting the fact that the situation was so bad that nothing was possible. He also described that the going was already heavy that the heavy showers worsened the conditions
terribly.
He said on Monday: "It's always frustrating to lose a meeting but we had no other option. We had 10mm last night on already heavy ground but were still perfectly raceable, but it's been raining here since mid-morning.”
"Even on a well-drained track like ours there's only so much it can take. You just can't race Flat horses on ground we've got at the moment," he added.
The venue was due to host seven high profile events. The proceedings were set to start with the 32Red.com Apprentice Handicap. The 1m4f race attracted many high profile runners, but Hamilton Hill seemed to be the most fascinating contestant.
On the other hand, Barachiel and Taroum were also determined to fancy their chances, as both runners recently showed their capability to handle testing conditions. The latter, in particular, made an impressive progress last time, finishing fifth at Windsor.
The card also included 32Red/Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Maiden Stakes, in which Mrs Warren was the strongest runner. She recently made plenty of improvement to make a fine impression. Masai King was also looking good to pick up the pieces.
Other races in the card were: 32Red Casino Handicap, 32 Bonus At 32Red.com Handicap, Lonetree Ltd McDonalds Handicap, Walters UK Handicap and 32RedPoker.com Handicap.
