My fiance wants to go into infantry. Okay i already know about going to take the asvab and meps and all that, but after he goes through meps and all that processing, how long will it take for him to go to basic training/ ait school and how long will he be there? And also how long will his leave be when he comes home after training? im trying to figure it all out because were planning our wedding around the time he gets out of training. someone please help me out. he plans on going to the recruiter and retaking his asvab near the end of september beginning of october.

  1. Basic training is 9wks....and depending on his MOS is how long his AIT will be for instance my husband is a 25 sierha which is Signal corps he just finshed up his very long Ait of 36 wks...Not sure about Infantry probably six wks or so...Your recruiter should be able to answer that question for you. He will not get any leave right after Basic training the only thing he will get is Family day and the day he grads from basic but he has to report back on base to load up and go to where his AIT is. Now depending on his orders he gets to his first duty station determines when he will be able to take leave he might have to report first then request leave.

My husband and I were planing on having our big wedding after he finshes his training but hun with the army you never whats going to happen....Hurry up and wait thats what i keep hearing....we just had something small before he left....and we will be renewing our vows with the wedding we really want after he finshes doing the army thing!

  2. My BF just started Basic/Infantry training at Ft Benning. He'll be gone about 14-16 weeks. Basic/AIT is 14 weeks, but he was in Reception for about 2 weeks. After graduation they get to come home for about 10 days (which includes travel days to get to first duty station). Any questions, feel free to email me =)

  3. BCT (basic combat training) is usually 9 weeks. He will get 2 weeks leave after AIT (in most cases). AIT can be anywhere from 6 weeks to 12 weeks maybe more maybe less. I just joined the army and BCT is 9 weeks then i have an additional 12 weeks of AIT.

  4. Are you sure he needs to retake his ASVAB to go infantry first of all.  If he does reconsider marrying him.  His recruiter should tell him everything, but here it goes.  He will go to Fort Benning Georgia, quite possibly the worst place on Earth, where he will go through what I think now is a straight 14 week basic training  that combines Basic and AIT together.  If I were him I would leave as soon as possible because it does get cold down there and the only thing worse then being cold is being wet and cold.  Here is a link to the homepage of where he is going.  There are links for Families and stuff there.
