My fiance and I have planned to have our wedding February 14th, he hasn't gone through training yet..he is still in the process of taking the ASVAB (which is tomorrow), the physical, etc. So I was just wondering if the army will let him take time off to go to the wedding?

  1. Don't skimp, get the wedding insurance.  And stay flexible in the planning.

In general the military will try to work with a member's schedule to try to get them to important events in their life but its not a guaranteed thing, ever.  DH's Navy and I know a few girlfriends/wives who had elaborate wedding plans canceled because the guy had to leave when the sub did.  The ones who took it best either had insurance that reimbursed the cost of the wedding or were flexible and used that pre-arranged party to celebrate the wedding with the family even though they did a courthouse ceremony before he left.

  2. If he is in basic he will NOT get time off for the wedding.  If he has completed basic, and AIT and is at his first duty station by then, then he should have no problem taking leave as long as he has a few days saved up.

  3. It depends.  If he passes the ASVAB, when will be his report date for training?  Typically, he will go through 8 weeks of basic training and then 5 weeks and up for MOS training depending what his MOS will be.  During training, they only give leave for Christmas.  If he is reporting soon, I assume his training will be over by time your wedding date and there may be a good chance that he will be deployed.  I strongly suggest discussing this with his recruiter and emphasize the importance.  He may want to hold off joining until after the wedding or you may want to move the wedding up.  The ASVAB should be the beginning stages of his recruitment so he should still be able to change his mind.

  4. it all depends, if he is done with his training then yes he will be able to take a day off or so but he will need to let his unit know. If he is going to be overseas it will be harder for him to have time off...

  5. It depends on what the schedule is. If he's in training, he will not be granted the time off.

Once he gets to his duty station, he can put in a request for leave, however, it isn't guaranteed to be granted.

My husband could not take any time off for our wedding. Thankfully, our wedding was on a Saturday and he had the weekend off. I lived 8 hours from his base, and his request to come down for the weekend was granted. We got married on a Saturday, moved my stuff up on Sunday and on Monday, he went to the field for 2 weeks.

His recruiter will not know the answer, as his recruiter has no idea where his first duty station will be nor what their training schedule is like. All leave is at the discretion of the Chain of Command.

  6. Nope, he has to wait until the Army issues him a wife/spouse/domestic partner, etc...

  7. No problem with that, unless he is deployed, that can be a different story. in the army you get 2.5 days off per month you are active, so if he goes to basic/ait or osut soon he should have time to take off and go to the wedding still

  8. If he hasn't taken the ASVAB yet, he isn't in the Army.

No, the Army doesn't let you take time off from training unless it's a family emergency.

Before he picks an MOS(job), have him check how long AIT is. Basic is 9 weeks. He'll get 10 days off between Basic and AIT.

Depending on his MOS, he'll be training between 6 weeks and one year. (More or less)

If he leaves for Basic before or after 1 Sept, he won't have time to complete his training and get back home for the wedding.

An option would be to get married wherever he goes for AIT.

    Go to the local courthouse.

    Or,

Just wait until after his training, even if it misses Valentine's Day.

(I myself get married at Ironhorse Chapel on Ft Hood. Quick and easy)

    Good luck

  9. yes they will. but if he still in basic training they wont just let him leave.but after basic training is over with yes they will so don't worry just make sure he ask his recruiter just to make sure.

  10. If he's at his duty station probably, barring an upcoming deployment for which block leave has been set aside.

If he's at BCT, no chance.

If he's at AIT, maybe since 14FEB is on a Saturday.  Meaning you could have a marriage ceremony within about 200 miles of his AIT post.

Better to wait until he's at his first duty station even it means you can't get married on Valentine's Day.  Or hey, there's always 2010.
