My fiance wants to legally adopt my daughter, well be the other parent legally. There is no record of the real father, and he is not on the birth certificate. I would like to have him legally be the father on paper. Can anyone tell me anything of how to go about that, or atleast how to look it up? thanx

  1. Do what you think is right. Does your daughter think he is her dad already beacause i think you should. Think about t real hard tho before you jump into something like this because it is a very big thing

  2. 1)Get a pre-nup regarding your daughter's placement should a divorce ensue.

2)wait for 6 months to a year, to make sure the marriage is stable before finalizing the adoption.

  3. Absolutely NOT until he is your husband.

  4. Just realize, if you're not married - you're going to cause yourself a whole world of complication when you break up. You may say that he wouldn't want to take your daughter but he may just want to hurt you.

But what you do is go to the courthouse and file the papers.

  5. I am not sure but I do think you have to be married before you can do this.

No pre-nump  how ignorant. If you trust and love this man enough to allow him to adopt your daughter than you need to trust this man enough to allow his rights should you become divorced. How is that fair to this child. I suggest you find a lawyer. In TN the process with father known took 4 months and 600$ in 99. Good Luck

  6. Wait until your married for a while.

  7. What worries me - is that there is a REAL father out there - the father that shares a biological make-up with your child - are you not ever allowing your child to actually know who her REAL father is?? And not allowing the father to know of his daughter??

If so - I highly disagree with your motives.

Ethically - this is completely wrong.

  8. The real dad will have to sign over his rights to the child.  Talk to a lawyer that is in family law prior to doing this.  They can draw up the papers and help with the adoption and all the other things you will need to do.

  9. First off I think that most of you are really not helping... Are you reading the question with any intent to answer? no... you all seem to be criticizing the woman.

I know what you are going through.  I am going to be married in a year as well, and it is my son in question... no info of the father on the birth certificate, no knowledge of who he is as of yet... so on and so forth.  My son thinks that my fiance is his father... which he is... by his actions that is... as far as the sperm donor... my son will eventually find out and I am not going to mask it, I am confident that he will make the analysis that if the donor hasn't wanted anything to do with me all of my life, and this guy stepped up to the plate, loves me, pays for me, and has been here for me, he is my real father.

I am looking for some resources as well... most of what I find is summed up like this...

Most states permit adoption by adults over the age of 25.  So as long as the fiance is old enough, the fact that you are not married should not prevent the adoption.  If your son's father has any rights to the child then you will have to have him sign some paperwork... and hire a lawyer....

    OR...

Call the vital records department of alterations... They can send you some paperwork that you get notarized and then send back... you basicly change the birth cirtificate!!!

  10. he might be a good man, but just wait till your married, if he can comitt to your child surely can commit to you. yeah wait till yall r married, because if things go wrong between you and him, he will then have custody of your child as well.and u never know take custody of your child. and she is not really his, just think before you do it, up to you. we cant tell you what to do girl. but i would wait. but if you want to you can call social security office and they can give you a number to call to do that r know someone who can give you that info. good luck
