You can use either fiberglass "t" posts or the less expensive rod post with a fence charger.  The t type is best for permanent installations involving large animals while the rod posts are generally used for temporary installations such as rotating pasture.  It is still recommended that you use insulators with either style.   Effect and produce??  An electric fence is very effective and will certainly produce an unpleasant but non lethal shock.
