Fibriani Ratna Marita wins Women’s 200m back-stroke title – Singapore National Championships
Fibriani Ratna Marita of Indonesia amazed the arena with her gruelling effort in the Women’s 200m back-stroke category, on the final day of the 2011 Singapore National Swimming Championships.
The Singapore National was a six-day swimming meet, which provided national and international swimmers with a chance to compete with each other.
The 16-year-old Marita won the gold medal of the 200m event, by touching the wall in a noteworthy time of 2 minutes and 25.09 seconds. She was followed by Fang Yi Chan of Ace Swim Club, who stayed 2.81 seconds behind Marita and touched the wall for silver medal, by producing a time of 2 minutes and 27.90 seconds. They were followed by Speediswim Aquatic Centre’s Phiangkhwan Pawapotako, who occupied the podium for the bronze medal with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 30.64 seconds.
The champion controlled the race from the starting blocks, as she was the first swimmer to jump-off the diving blocks. She demonstrated her stupendous skills in front of the arena and dominated her way to the top of the podium in a four-lap swim.
Moments later, May Chua of Singapore Island Country Club appeared on the finishing wall as the fourth fastest swimmer of the race, by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 31.03 seconds. She was almost two seconds away from her closest competitor, Jolene Tan of Chinese Swimming Club S’Pore, who completed her swim in the fifth best place, by posting a time of 2 minutes and 33.21 seconds.
h*i Ying Stacy Tan of Aquatic Performance Swim Club proved her eligibility for the sixth fastest spot, as she touched the wall in a time of 2 minutes and 34.48 seconds. She was followed by Li-Shan Chantal Liew of Singapore Swim Club and Kim Alabaster of Swimfast Aquatic Club, who followed her on the finishing wall for the seventh and eighth fastest spots, with timings of 2:36.69 and 2:37.65 minutes, respectively.
Marita expressed happiness over her victory in the meet and claimed that she will continue to perform well in future events.
