I Heard, Long ago, that people Were Looking for a Peripheral Mediation, but Were Unable to Find One.

  1. go to www.lyrica.com

  2. It`s possible. Many patients of fibromyalgia also have sleep disturbance not caused by pain. This points out to a central cause.

  3. I don't even know what a peripheral mediation would have to do with fm.... and never even heard of it.

If you wish to know of some things that work, write.

  4. Just a quick look at PubMed...

Central mediation seems to be the premise in these works (below). Treatment based on this demonstrates positive results from self-reported outcome measures, but, there is at least a control group in the 2007 study:

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16634...

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17872...

EDIT: nmcollegestudent: Do you have any hard evidence of what appears to be simply YOUR bias. Kinda just diminutive of others' pain, otherwise, isn't it?

EDIT 2: nmcollegestudent: Sorry, heresay is not empirical evidence. What you have provided is only YOUR prejudice (more of what you originally wrote about). Heresay to do with your biases and to do with what you've been told by "titles". Someone's word, whether they are a title or not, alone, is not evidence.

I am just finishing a PhD and mdGreg C has two MS degrees as well as an MD. But, evidence doesn't arise from a pi$$ing contest to do with who has more credentials or titles. In the same vein, being a pharm tech, doesn't automatically make anything you say true, either. From what I can see, you are a pharm tech with a lot of prejudice. And, what's worse, it appears that you "believe" all cases of fibromyalgia are simply an organized means to obtain pain pills. Please excuse me if I am wrong. But, if this is what you are implying, well, that saddens me. It pains me to think how your uninformed bias has negatively affected people you are supposed to help. Is it your job to be judgemental? Do your "qualifications" allow you to diagnose people? Is it your job to disparage the suffering of others? Do you have any idea how imposing your mere "beliefs" and bias (as opposed to facts) onto others might impact them? Have you ever been close to pain and sickness?--I doubt it. Having professionals such as yourself contribute to a problem is an abuse of power, not to mention hurtful and destructive.

In any event, you did not answer my original inquiry with the provision of unequivocal hard evidence, to support your claims that fibromyalgia is, as you say: "a convenient excuse for patients to be prescribed narcotic pain-killers". I was not looking for heresay nor bias, but something in a peer-reviewed journal with a rigourous methodology. I strongly suspect you will not find anything.

BTW: you also didn't answer or even address the questioner's original Q.

EDIT 3: mdGreg C: LOL, sorry about that :-). I don't know why I wrote you had 2 MS degrees. I DO remember you telling me, probably more than once. Maybe because the BSEE is something different than a BS...or, at least in my mind. Anyway, oppps :-). Please excuse :-).

  5. Fibromyalgia (or the existence of it) is hotly debated among medical professionals.  The overwhelming opinion is that it is-plain and simple-a convenient excuse for patients to be prescribed narcotic pain-killers.  Docs RX it just to shut them up basically.  One can convince themself that s/he is suffering from anything...especially if you want to.  It is pretty perverted in this case.

EDIT--what 'appears' to be my personal bias, to your blind eyes (do you have any medical qualifications?), is not.  If enough people catch on to saying they've got-lets say a new disease called PID-not pelvic inflamatory disease, but pharmaceutical ignorance disease: which could be treated with a pleasant and euphoric narcotic, all symptoms would disappear (since it is NOT a well-agreed upon nor a recognized, distinct 'disease'...all in the head) except for possibly psychological distress stemming from having to take, pay for, and go through cravings AND withdrawls.

Overwhelming evidence you say?  Wow-I guess the internet is replacing MD's these days...keep drinking that kool-aid.  Of course numerous websites will mention this 'disorder' so that people will feel in control and better-not to mention the quite convienient ads on the same pages in which you can illegally obtain narcotics, "shipped discretely".  There are RARE instances in which internet pharmacies can dispense controlled pain-killers, to be fair...speaking of which, can you guys see my sources?  I've worked in his pharmacies since I was 11 years old (I'm 25 now)...and he has always had close MD friends who lend their *professional* opinion against your various defenses in claiming  and telling others you've got 'it'...leading others with PID to jump on the bandwagon and consume that hydrocodone, codeine, etc like there's no tomorrow.

If you have legitimate pain, I am sorry if I come off insensitive.  But c'mon guys...do not just self-diagnose.  Talk to doctors and you will see my 'hard' evidence...double-blind studies, docs' experiences & opinions, and so on and so forth.

Keep at it and you will find the true source of your physical symptoms...even if they are simply cognitive manifestations.

  6. OVERWHELMING OPINION from KNOWLEDGABLE people-is that FMS is a disorder of The Central Nervous System--

I have never hear the term centrally mediated--tried a quick search--couldn't get a definition--can you explain teh differnece....

ok--so waht does--centrally caused mean----caused by teh CNS?
