Have you used Neurontin (gabapentin) for Fibromyalgia

(OR nerve pain)?

If so, has it helped?

What dosage did you start off on and how long did it take to help?

Also,

how long does it take to get use to taking this med? I feel rotten from taking it!

  1. I'm not a Doctor.  I tried it for Fibromyalgia.  I don't remember the dosages for sure, but I think there were a couple different strengths 400, 600 & 800.  I'm guessing I tried it for about 4-6 months.  Personally, I quit taking it as it didn't help me one bit.

Talk to your doctor and see how long they think it's reasonable for you to try this.  If you're feeling a lot worse, personally I'd call my doctor right away.  See if you can stop taking it, or whether you have to reduce the dosage slowly, or whatever they recommend.

I got so tired of trying medications, I made my own "rule" up about taking them.  I only wish I'd done it years ago.  My rule is, the medication has to make me feel better.  That's it.  Sounds too simple, doesn't it?

Have you tried Lyrica for Fibromyalgia?  It's supposed to help.  Personally, I can't afford it.

You can also try pain medications.  I recommend you see an actual pain specialist, as you don't want your regular doctor messing around with strong pain killers.  There are pain medications that will help the pain.

Try to join a Fibromyalgia support group.  There are several on Yahoo.  Members can be helpful in sorting through this horrible illness.  I hope you find something to help you.

  2. My mother & daughter are diabetics & they both used it for feet pain/nerve damage, I don't know the strength, but both said it didn't help them.

  3. i tried neurontin--a high dose--didn't do a thing----

  4. I am taking Neurontin for fibromyalgia.  I started on 400mg a day for a week then 400 twice a day.  It made me feel tired and light headed for about a week.  It has helped me quite a bit.  I still have flare ups but they do not come as often and they are not as bad as they used to be.  I have been taking it for about a year.  I tried Cymbalta but it really made me tired and I did not get much relief, some but not as much as I am with Neurontin.  Everybody reacts different though.  If you have been on the Neurontin more than 2 weeks and you still feel rotten, talk to your doctor about switching to something else.  There is always Cymbalta or Lyrica to try.  Good luck, I hope you find some relief soon.

  5. i,m taking neurontin for a pinched nerve and i,m on 900mg a day and it makes you feel bad .ask your dr about cymbalta its supposed to be way better
