  1. Tibia is the larger of the two bones from the stifle to the hock, fibula is the smaller bone that extends half the length of the tibia and sits parallel to it.The fibula is a thin bone which has no weight bearing function.

Its function is it forms the upper part of the hind limb.

For a picture on its location go to this site.. i personally am i visual learner. =)

  2. The upper hind leg.  The lower hind leg of a horse corresponds to the human bones of the feet.  The horse's stifle corresponds to the human knee joint, with the overlying patella (kneecap).

The tibia and fibula in a human are bones of the lower leg, below the knee.  The tibia and fibula in a horse are below the stifle. What we call the knee on a horse is the ankle in a human.

  3. The tibia and fibula are on the back leg of the horse.  They are below the femur.  They are ABOVE the hock and BELOW the stifle.  The femur runs from the hip to the stifle, and the tibia/fibula are below that, just like in humans.  Horses just have more joints in their legs, so it makes in confusing, so you always start at the top.  Below the hock, you have the cannon, and two splint bones, then you get into the fetlock/pastern/coffin bones.

  4. no its not. its the long bone just above the hocks on the horses back legs (like in the gaskin area)

  5. The fibula is in the hindlimb. It's "behind" the tibia.  The tibia and fibula are "below" the femur, with the stifle between them.

The hock is "below" the tibia and fibula.
