Cagliari manager, Massimo Ficcadenti, has praised the character his team showed to beat A.S Roma in their opening fixture of the 2011/12 Serie A season.
The Rossoblu won 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico Rome and the manager is extremely delighted with an early season win on the road. Cagliari managed to win only four games on their travels last season and Ficcadenti wants his team to
improve on it this season.
The 43-year-old was installed as the new club manager late in the summer as a replacement to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Donadoni. The former Torino midfielder wants his team to enjoy the win at their most but has warned them not to get complacent
with the result.
The former Cesena boss believes that his team possesses some really good players and the win would lay a great platform for them to build on.
Talking to the reporters Ficcadenti said, “I'm delighted, but we are just at the first day. There will be difficulties ahead, but in the meantime, we have to enjoy these three points, whilst also thinking about the next game.”
“This is a good team composed of excellent players. It also has the advantage of several players that have played together for years. For a Coach it is certainly easier to be in this situation, than to have to rebuild. In short,
I only have to improve the mechanisms.”
The manager believes that taking all three points from Stadio Olimpico Rome always gives a great feeling and he is also enthused with the win. The former Reggina manager believes that the win will give his team a great moral lift
but the players must start focusing on the next game.
Cagliari will host newcomers, Novara, in their next league game on September 17, 2011. Ficcadenti has urged his players to focus on the task on hand and has warned them not to take the opposition lightly.
The win over Roma was only their second win since the turn of year.
