  1. Because female rock bands are very difficult to listen to and don't attract a good following.  Just as no rational person would listen to a female rock group when they could listen to Eric Clapton.

  2. Haha! I was going to ask if The Bangles counted.

    The Go-Go's?

Edit: I can't believe people are actually comparing The Supremes and Mariah Carey to The Beatles and The Stones! Are they serious? LMFAO!!

  3. The Supremes is pretty close

but I guess it's the same reason that no MALE soloist comes even close to women like Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross (no not even Elvis comes as close, he, in my opinion is overrated)

EDIT: I'm sorry, but have you heard Mariah Carey's range? and if you re-read I wasn't comparing Mariah Carey TO The Beatles or the Stones, it's a new category for soloists. And I said the Supremes come pretty close, not that they ARE on the same league of The Beatles or the Stones but they are close. A h**l of a whole lot closer than The Bangles that's for sure.

  4. Women don't have to be in a rock band to get laid.

  5. Yes, the Supremes do have the right to be compared to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. People forget they were the top female group in the US in the 1960s and had a total of 12 #1 hits. That's more than what the Rolling Stones had. So what if they were a vocal group? There are also many male vocal groups. Before the Beatles came along, it was unusual for artists to write their own songs and play their own instruments. They had their songs provided to them by songwriters and had backing bands. Even many 1960s bands such as the Monkees, the Beach Boys, and the Byrds, didn't play their own instruments on their recordings. They used session musicians.

In response to another poster, I personally think Eric Clapton is overrated.

  6. Yes, there are: The Supremes, The Shirelles,  The Shangri-Las, Destiny's Child,  Bananarama, The  Go-Go's, Expose, Hole and many others. Even though all of these girl groups are disbanded, so are all the boy bands you mentioned, except for the Rolling Stones and they will continue to make albums until they are petrefied wood. The problem is with their playability. With the exception of The Supremes, girl bands don't get as much air time as boy bands and why I don't know.
