The 30-year-old right-arm fast bowler from Barbados had sustained a back injury during the three-match home Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 last month and missed the third and final Test of the series in Dominica.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382, confirmed on Saturday that the Barbadian has not yet fully recovered from the sore back. He however, was confident that the speedster will be fit in time for the first Test of the three-match series, commencing at the
historic Lord’s ground on May 17, 2012.
"Fidel is still carrying a niggle. The physio is going to monitor him and give him some more time to recover," said Sammy speaking to the media reporters ahead of the first tour game against Sussex, first day of which was washed out on Saturday.
"It's not bad. We came here knowing Fidel would be rested for this game. Come the 17th, everybody will be ready. Fidel is somebody I know what to expect from. I know what he's going to give and whenever he plays will be ready," the visiting skipper added
further.
With 157 wickets from 53 Tests, Edwards is the most experienced bowler in Windies pace battery and has been a vital cog in their attack in recent years.  However, his injury prone body has kept him away from the field most of the time and had returned to
action last year after a two-year post-surgery injury layoff.
The tourists are scheduled to play another warm-up game against England Lions at Northampton, from May 10 to 13, before starting their campaign against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 game, however, he
was sure the spearhead pacer will make himself available for the first Test.
"Whether he plays the Lions game or not, I know when that bell rings on the 17th, he will be ready. He'll be the first one to say: 'Give me the ball'."
