if possible see if you can go to a field hockey camp over the summer.. this site will show the camps that they have. try and find one closet to you.

    hope i helped. :]

  2. I had a short tenure as the goalkeeper for a usa program. The biggest thing is endurance, it is a great game but it is kind of like soccer. Never lift the ball above the hips unless you are just taking a shot on goal. The ring around the  net (which looks like a basketball 3point line) is actually a point which the ball must move into before a goal can be scored. Any goals scored from outside the line does not count. It is important to learn to dribble the ball. This is when a player will tap the ball lightly in advance and run to catch up. A player  can sprint all the way up the field with a lot of these taps. It is a fun game, but running and edurance is a must. Just remember that field hockey is NOTHING like ice hockey, aggressive play does not set the tone of the play and taking the boards out means that there is little to no playing along the edge of the field.

  3. when is the meeting?

  4. Field hockey is awesome! its the best sport i have ever  played, i can't see why more people don't play it   : )

The structure of the game is a lot like soccer, with the usual forwards, midfielders, and defenders. The most basic skills you need to play is trapping, hitting/pushing and passing, which can easily be practised at home against a wall. You need to be reasonably fit, and speed helps a lot.

Try to enjoy your game, don't worry about the score. Recently the most fun I've had on a hockey turf was our team getting beaten 7-0 against the best team in our grade. Once the first half thrashing (6-0) was over, our coach just told us 2 have fun and don't worry about the score, and consequently we did the best half any team has done against them, only letting them score a stroke.

Passing makes a good team great!

  5. omj we are so working on it this summer we will learn all the basics! no worries im sure we will have fun

  6. SUPER fun  its not to hard after you get the hang of it

the stick might seem impossible to use at first but keep practicing. I suggest you go to a starter camp this summer and learn the basics about rules positioning etc. also you might want to start running if you dont already to condition. It will be a fun and exciting challenge hope you enjoy it as much as I do

  7. Field hockey is fun, especially if you play on turf (synthetic grass), you'll probably want some basic rules, i don't know how much you know about hockey so I'll give you the very basics, you can only use the flat side of the stick, the ball can't touch your foot (that rule is more in depth with the touching of the foot i just suggest it doesn't touch your foot at all), You can not hack another plays stick (hit it) ,you can not block a player from the ball with your body, unless its a full turn (so don't go basketball style and turn around and such), some basic maneuver's , Indian dribble tap the ball side to side, turning the stick so it lands on the back side and push back, when hitting put BOTH hands together so that one hand is touching the other (one on top of the other), when trapping the ball (stopping it with your stick) if on turf trap it with the stick low so it is almost horizontal to the ground, when on normal grass trap upright (IE vertical), when tackling do not swing at the ball as you will most likely hack their stick, and most of all have fun!

  8. im my pe class, were required to play it. We play a new sport about every 3 weeks and field hockey was one of them. It was definately my favorite of them all. You should really enjoy it....u just gotta be agressive....Play the corners and u will always get it passed to u. hope this helps. its pretty much like hockey, just without the skates. Pretty self explanitory
