Fieldgunner Kirkup hyped up about the James Herriot Hall Conference & Banqueting Handicap
The Class 4 James Herriot Hall Conference & Banqueting Handicap has pulled together a very moderately competitive line-up for the £4,205 prize money event. Majority out of the sixteen, three-year-old and above runners have not raced at Thirsk lately, and
many have not even been able to break out successfully from the last race that they took part in.
The only successful contender on the track for the race today is the four-year-old bay gelding, Fieldgunner Kirkup. The German bay gelding has been active eight times ever since the new season dawned. The only other time that he won was at Newcastle.
The David Barron trained won the JW 4X4 Northallerton Handicap on 31st August, 2012 at Thirsk over seven furlongs. In the field of ten, the four-year-old raced after the leaders, and had progressed drastically over two furlongs out. Just when
the final furlong was approaching, the German gelding was challenged, and only had the final 1 ¼ lengths favouring him.
He defeated the runner-up, Chookie Royale, into the runner-up’s position.
The 7 to 1 entry will race from the tenth stall and retains his winning partner, jockey, Graham Gibbons. The seven furlongs distance along with the soft surface are the same elements that made him win in the previous race.
Another note worthy entry for the race today is the four-year-old, Comrade Bond. The Mark H. Tompkins trained has been successful in the last two outings, and if he does not fail to sustain the form for the challenge today then he most definitely will be
able to strike a hat-trick
Both the races that Monsieur Bond’s chestnut gelding won were over the same distance that he has to race over today, however the jockey who accompanied the Raceworld owned were different at both the instances.
The 9 to 1 entry has drawn the fifth gate to race from today and will race with a third different jockey today, Paul Mulrennan. The level of competition of course will be different from what he has encountered before. The only question mark is of he will
be able to adjust with a third jockey.
