Fierce battle for girls' crown at Waterford
The 2012 Irish Girls Close Championship will be held from July 18 to 20. The venue is the historic Waterford Golf Club.

As with any other top level tournaments, Irish Girls Close Championship is the showcase for the top talent of Ireland’s budding female golfers. Every year, the best among the young golfers are invited to play and the winner is then on her way to a great
amateur career.
This year is no exception as top contenders arrive at the scenic Waterford Golf Club to play in the three-day event.
This time around, there is an added incentive that is sure to sweeten the deal. Irish Girls International team placements will be announced at the end of the tournament on Friday, July 20.
The Irish Girls International team comprises of eight members, all of them top young golfers drawn from all over Ireland.
The team will compete in Girls Home Internationals. This event is scheduled for August 7-9 and will be played in Radyr Golf Club, Wales.
This year, top golfers will come to claim the title for themselves. The line-up is particularly competent this time, as it features experienced players with exposure to international golf. Of particular mention are Jessica Carty, Olivia Mehaffey, Chloe Ryan
and Jean O’Driscoll.
These four players are experienced in playing golf on both national and international events. Their claim to fame is their participation in European Girls Team Championships, held in Germany.
With this line-up and venue, this year’s Irish Girls Close Championship will be a tough competition, offering players and fans a great golfing opportunity.
