Fiercest Heineken Matches of 2011 – a recap
It just took 40 minutes for Leicester Tigers to record an irrefutable victory of 62-15 over Benetton Treviso at Welford Road on a Heineken Cup match on Sunday. Leicester Tigers will be forced to travel in the quarter finals, while their Pool rivals Perpignan
declared a maximum five points victory against Scarlets at home.
Former Champions gave another imposing performance and have claimed to be the fiercest competition for whoever ends up hosting them in April. Jordan Crane was all over the field and proved his ability of filling in for any player. Ben Youngs and Toby Flood
have given new hopes to the English team by running the Leicester machine efficiently behind the pack.
Benetton Treviso looked impressive in the first stage of the game but was overruled by the Tigers at every step. Treviso even took the lead in first five minutes when Kristopher Burton kicked an awakening drop goal. Leicester came into action after this
and started playing with the ball and throwing it everywhere around. Toby Flood scored a penalty gifted by Treviso and levelled the score for Tigers. By the end of the first half English giants had taken control of the situation and owned the ball.
The scrum turned out to be the major factor in the game and brought Tigers’ first try as Jordan Crane got the most out of the base on seventeen minutes. The home team started to attack on every attempt by Treviso and turned the s***w in all the areas of
the field. Soon enough number eight Jordan Crane found a gap 30 meters out of the line and rushed through to pass the ball to New Zealander Scott Hamilton. Hamilton was the one to finish it with a superb pace and a good fend, giving Tigers a handsome lead.
Leicester‘s fans had already chalked all over the walls of Welford Road about the tremendous victory. They came in the stands with the belief that Leicester will be scoring a bonus point before first half and so they did. Jordan Crane went over to Treviso’s
touch line scoring the similar try that he scored earlier on 31st minute and earned that bonus point for Tigers before the half time whistle.
Alesana Tuilagi was the next one who went over the touch line and added fuel to the fans roar who were already jubilant and frenzied by the stunning performance of Leicester Tigers. Then it was Alesana’s brother Manu Tuilagi to score a brilliant try later
on.
Jordan Crane struck his hat-trick in very short time before Thomas Waldrom and Toby Flood, his back row colleagues, made a perfect finish to another try. Thomas Waldrom collected a very dodgy pass from Flood and stormed through the defense to cross the touch
line. The Tigers score kept on building with the help of couple of extras awarded by the clumsy and exhausted Treviso’s defense.
The scoring at the end stages came from Manu Tuilagi, replacement Alfi Mafi and Hamilton’s second try for Leicester Tigers, while the Italian only scored a few points with the help of Alberto Sgarbi and Brendan Williams.
