Fiery Choi hopes to shine in Malaysia again
South Korean Na Yeon Choi is happy to see the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia coming up once again, as the defending champion thinks she is fully fit to take on rivals this week and repeat what she
did last year at the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament.
The Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 is scheduled to be staged from October 11-14 at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, with the participation of stars like current world number one Yani Tseng,
Stacy Lewis of the United States, Paula Creamer and Suzann Pettersen.
Choi said while talking to the media in her recent interview that she can still relish the last year’s success she recorded at the same course, and this is what has kept her motivated throughout
the year.
Choi displayed an electrifying performance in the last edition of Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia, as she shot a 269 to grab a one-stroke victory against nearest rival Yani Tseng.
Observers said that Choi’s performance in the first round of 2011 edition was nothing short of amazing because she did not let her nerves rattle her and kept scoring till the final hole. She
had carded a 66 to make a solid start, which kept her momentum going and she eventually subdued Tseng despite facing a tough resistance in the last round.
The South Korean expressed her confidence into her game, saying she knows that her stunning performance in the 2012 season is going to help her shine this week too.
Choi got off to a firm start in the 2012 season as she recorded good finishes in some of the tournaments. But what put the rising star in the limelight was her victory at the 2012 US Women’s
Open, where she unveiled her explosive putting skills, keeping her rivals at bay throughout the four rounds.
“I've had a good year, winning my first Major at the US Open,” she said and added that the success was great without a doubt, but she seeks to make a major breakthrough by capping off the
season with a win in Malaysia.
“It would be great to complete the year by defending my title here. I have a lot of special memories from Malaysia and hopefully I'll add some more this week," the major champion shared.
