by  |  earlier

My son just graduated and we are planning his graduation party. He wants a Fiesta theme. We would like to budget most of our money on food. The party will be at a park under a pavillion.

I need suggestions for cool food items....how to set it up...what to include.

Also....we need suggestions for decorations.

Thank you!

  1. Red,white and green streamers.Do a huge nacho/salad bar.Have everything that goes on the nachos.they make their own.Maybe a large fruit bowl?Hope this helps...

  2. A pinata is perfect to match your Mexican fiesta, check http://www.pinatas.com/Mexican_Market_s/... for party decoration.

  3. you should let them make their own burritos and tacos. You should also make chili. Another great hit chips and salsa. You should get different types for salsa just in case one person doesn't like the salsa.

  4. If you live where there are many good Hispanic restaurants around (not like Taco Bell or other fastfood ones), then you should check them out and see if they cater.  If you are feeding a lot of people, this might be the way to go.

However, you can always make the food yourself...

I make baleadas (I think that is how it is spelled), which are basically burritos, but without meat (I add it in anyway!).

The Internet has many great websites with recipes on them, and you can check the ratings made by users of the recipe and website.  These ratings are usually pretty accurate.

I also think, and this is just a suggestion, that you buy him a giant sombrero and put it on his head when the party starts and make him wear it until all the guests have arrived.  If you are into embarrassing your son...my parents are.

  5. Make an enchilada casserole, rice, beans and a green tossed salad. have fruit punch to drink. Decorate with red white and green balloons and streamers and have a pinata..use red plates, green plastic silverware and white or clear cups. (or mix the colors up)..You can get tri colored napkins at like Walmart or Party City. Make it real colorful.

  6. Tamales, salsa, homemade tortillas, usually, you can pick these items up at a mexican store or an authentic type mexican restaurant. Burritos. Ask for some food tips from your son (what does everyone like, what types of mexican food they like, etc). As for decorations, just about anything red, green, and white are good to go.
